Vercel vs Cloudflare Pages for Next.js: cost and catches

Updated 2026-10-22

On price, Cloudflare wins clearly: static files are served free with no bandwidth charges, and server-rendered requests cost $5/mo for the first 10 million on Workers Paid. Vercel Pro starts at $20 per developer seat and starts metering transfer after 1 TB. The catch is compatibility. Vercel runs Next.js natively, while Cloudflare now points full-stack Next.js apps to vinext (a Vite-based reimplementation of the Next.js API, in beta) on Workers, and only static exports go on Pages itself.

Estimated monthly cost for a Next.js app

Traffic / monthVercel (Pro, 1 seat)Cloudflare (Workers Free or Paid)
10,000 visits (15 GB)$20.00$0.00
100,000 visits (150 GB)$20.00$0.00
1,000,000 visits (1.5 TB)$115.00$0.00

Assumptions: 1.5 MB transferred and 20 requests per visit, of which 2 hit server code. Vercel: $20 seat, 1 TB Fast Data Transfer and 10M CDN requests included, then from $0.15/GB and $2 per 1M; function CPU, memory and Fast Origin Transfer beyond the included usage are not counted. Cloudflare: static asset requests are free and unlimited and there is no egress charge; dynamic requests fit the Free plan's 100,000/day on average at these levels. Above that, Workers Paid is $5/mo with 10M requests and 30M CPU-ms included, then $0.30 per 1M requests and $0.02 per 1M CPU-ms.

What drives the difference

Bandwidth. Vercel includes 1 TB on Pro (100 GB on Hobby) and then charges from $0.15/GB. Cloudflare's Workers pricing page says there are no charges for data transfer or bandwidth. At 1M visits that alone is about $75 on Vercel in our model.

Requests. Every request to Vercel counts as a CDN request (10M included on Pro, then from $2 per 1M), cached or not. On Cloudflare, only requests that run your Worker are billed; static asset requests are free. One caveat from Cloudflare's docs: if you turn on Workers Caching, cache hits are billed at the same per-request rate.

Seats. Vercel charges $20 per developer seat (viewer seats are free). Cloudflare's $5 Workers Paid plan is per account, and Pages projects can be managed by unlimited users.

Compute. Vercel bills Fluid Active CPU (from $0.128/hour), provisioned memory (from $0.0106/GB-hr) and invocations (1M included, then from $0.60 per 1M). Cloudflare bills only CPU time, not wall-clock duration, so time spent waiting on a database or API is free.

Verdict

Mostly static site or a Next.js static export: Cloudflare Pages, effectively free at any traffic in this table. Full Next.js app where you can test vinext first: Cloudflare Workers at $0 to $5 a month beats Vercel Pro on price at every traffic level here. Large app that leans on Next.js-specific features, or a team that wants zero migration risk: stay on Vercel and set the spend limit. Estimates only. Prices are in USD, exclude taxes, and were checked against the official pages on 2026-10-22. Vercel lists several rates as "starting at", which can vary by region.
